Mental health awareness is an important topic for many people. The general public needs to be more aware of mental illnesses and how they can affect someone’s life. It’s also important that those who are struggling with their own mental health know that it’s okay to talk about it or seek help.
That being said, what is Mental Health Awareness Month? Mental Health Awareness Month is a month-long event which aims to highlight the importance of preventing mental illness as well as providing support for those dealing with it.
It was created by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) in 1987, and takes place every year from April 1 through May 31st. The goal of this month-long event is to educate individuals on how they can prevent, detect, and treat mental illnesses. This is done through activities organized by local communities as well as screening programs for certain mental health conditions. It’s also used as an opportunity to promote research, raise awareness about treatment options, share personal stories of recovery, and highlight the work that’s being done to further scientific understanding of mental illness.
